commie barn bar

went to a fair the other day, and afterwards stopped by a communist themed barn/bar. they had some pretty good music… the t-shirts they had for sale were really weird. there was a swastika tee next to a hitler tee that read “hey, hitler?” next to a sad puppy dog tee.

peace, not war (plus a bonus capitalist puppetmaster poster):

nice big stage:

tattoo contest

that’s my friend fon on stage beside the lady boy. she entered in a tattoo contest at some place… she totally won first place! awesome! me and our friend eddy were the only foreigners and i was definitely the oldest person in the joint. all these young thais kept taking pictures with me, which was hilarious and confusing.

warm up

warm up bar had some sort of party a couple of nights ago. there was free stuff and some people were dressed up in funny costumes. the band that played was pretty decent. at some point one of the singers started bleeding from his head, i have no idea what happened and it was kind of freaky:

the female singer had a really good, really sweet voice:

autograph!

photobooth

there’s a ton of photobooths in thailand.

cover bands

thailand has a ton of cover bands that play popular thai songs as well as western music. it’s pretty interesting, i don’t think america really has that, at least not to the extent as it is here.

here’s a band playing some thai music at this bar/club called warm up (popular amongst the young hip thai crowd, located on nimminhaemin road near the cmu convention center end of street):

a giant munny or something

junkfootz

there was this really cool breakdancing contest thing at kad suan kaew mall the other day.

i didn’t really get any good pictures, but there was this temporary wall set up and some people were doing some graffiti-style painting. shaun got some video, i’ll probably post it later.

happy birthday king Bhumibol Adulyadej

the highly revered Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej is celebrating his 82nd birthday today (just two days after my birthday!). he’s the world’s longest reigning monarch, being king for over 63 years. people here LOVE him. his birthday’s a national holiday, so lots of places are closed today and there’s a ton of parties being held in his honor.

long live the king!

sick!

i caught a cold a few days ago, boooo. it’s customary to wear a face mask when you get sick, to help prevent the spread of disease (so you’re not coughing and/or sneezing on everything). luckily i got some cute face masks in a care package my friend tari sent me when she was in chiang mai several months ago.

polka dots!
