Another message from my friend Tari, who is staying in Chiang Mai for a little while.

Re: Chiangmai!
hi Bess,
Ban Kong Rao has wifi yep. There are a lot of great places here to stay. Make sure to check out Nimmanhaemen Road. It is outside of the old town and a bit more western/trendy/upscale, but very cool area and a lot more peaceful too! I bet you could sell some dresses, etc. in some of those boutiques/shops for a decent rate. There is a nightclub/bar/restaurant, etc. called Warm Up that isn’t touristy and is pretty cool for young hip Thais. I have some photos up from there on my Flickr.

We had to get a ton of shots for here too. It’s a good idea. Bring some antibiotics with you too in case you get travelers diarrhea! I started off not drinking the water or ice or eating any fresh non-cooked vegetables, but I have been eating and drinking whatever now for a few weeks and haven’t had any issues. Some classmates of mine have though!
There is a ton of live music here and it is all pretty good. There is a cool little bar nearby my guesthouse called Sodiac that is fun and I haven’t seen any other Farangs (westerners) there, only Thai hipsters
I went up north to Pai last weekend alone and it was awesome. So great to get out into the countryside and away from all the hustle and bustle. That’s a must do!
You guys should rent a motorbike. You can get them for like 2-4$ a day, but I bet you could find a cheaper month or longer rate somewhere. Bicycling is kind of hard here on some narrow streets full of motorbikes..
What is your address in Wilmington? I want to send you a postcard!
:)
Hope all is well,
Tari
